Winter made its mind up!

I arrived back to Aarhus on Friday by train from Copenhagen, and as we travelled away from Copenhagen, I realised it had been snowing in Denmark :o) When I got back to Aarhus there was a little bit of snow on the ground (had only fallen that day), but I noticed how much colder it was than Dublin. I didn't venture out much yesterday, and when I woke up this morning it was *really* snowing! I looked out the sitting room window and the snow ploughs were out in full force, getting the roads and cycle lanes back to normal. I took a photo with my phone - no camera at the moment :o(, but you kind of get the impression of what it's like.

Has winter left?

I don't get this winter thing at all. We had a tiny bit of snow the other day, then it was 6 degrees, then it rained, then the sun came out. No matter the weather, obviously I'm still going around in a t-shirt :o)

Happy New Year!

Godt Nytår! 2012 started with a bang, well actually a potential fire in my sister's neighbour's garden. After the clock struck midnight and we had a sing-song on the street with the neighbours, we saw quite a few Chinese lanterns flying through the sky above us. We get a brainwave - there are three, still packaged, lanterns in the attic - let's send one off into the night sky to mark the beginning of 2012. The process was funny to say the least - after the first unsuccessful attempt to inflate the lantern (the paper was slightly torn), the second one looked very promising. It inflated and was moving slowly upwards and sounds of 'awww' were coming from the group. Then suddenly a gust of wind sends the lantern in the direction of my friend (narrowly escaped any accident) and heads towards the house, takes a sharp turn left, and we think it's heading up when actually it was heading down, into the neighbour's garden. At this stage all we can see is the glow of a flame. Hmmm....is something on fire. Two of the group run up to the neighbour to warn them that something is burning in their garden. However, no one is home. But in the meantime another gust of wind catches the lantern and it is freed from the garden. It sails up into the air and we're all mesmerized by it's beauty. A funny and memorable start to the year.
